Research interests:

Prof. Dr. Katrin Giller’s research aims to unravel the molecular and cellular mechanisms through which dietary patterns, individual nutrients, and bioactive substances influence physiological and pathological processes throughout the lifespan. Using preclinical models and human clinical cohorts, she identifies diet-related phenotypes and derives nutritional strategies to support healthy development and prevent metabolic diseases such as obesity and fatty liver disease. Prof. Giller investigates these research questions on several complementary levels: from diet-induced modulation of the reproductive tract environment and the metabolic programming of offspring, through the molecular characterization of adipose tissue, the liver, and lipocalins, to conventional and alternative protein sources for human nutrition. This approach provides an integrated understanding, from various perspectives, of how nutrition, metabolism, and health influence one another in both the short and long term.
